    Description

This 1950D Federal Reserve Note Richmond 《Scarce Quadrupled Back Printing》graded VF35 by PMG and described as a Doubled First Print and yet the back printing is clearly quadrupled and upon closer inspection 4 different back plate numbers can be seen. The back plate #'s in decending order are: 2429, 2556, 2481 and 25x4 that can be seen under back plate #2481.  This very scarce and unusual quadrupled back printing is specifically described on page 126 of the United States Paper Money Errors 4th Edition by Frederick J. Bart. Loose cylinder impression errors with are known with as many as 3 or even 4 impressions with the same plate numbers because of cylinder bounce, however this is not the case here. What's intriguing is why the back of this 1950D Federal Reserve Note was printed 4 separate times without being rejected by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
