I am retiring my boutique recording studio, and am selling my amazing Gold Reference Stereo Tube Microphone by Manley Laboratories. I am the original owner. These microphones are rarely put on the market.
I am the original owner, and I believe that I purchased the very last Stereo Gold Reference that Manley ever produced. It has been gingerly used in my smoke-free boutique studio. The capsule is produced by Josephson in Santa Cruz, CA and the mic is manufactured at Manley Laboratories in Chino, CA.
There are several things that this mic excels at that that are difficult or sometimes impossible to achieve when using a matched pair of monophonic microphones.
1) Each capsule’s orientation can be changed by simply rotating the knob on the end of the mic.
2) Each capsule’s has its own independent pickup pattern adjustment, located at the base of the mic. This provides the ability to continuously adjust the pattern of each capsule from figure-8 to Omni, and everything in between.
3) The maximum SPL that this mic can handle is 150db, which allows it to be used on any source (note the two -10db pads, one for each capsule).
4) The stereo tracks that you’ve recorded with this mic can be panned all the way to the center/mono position without a concern of phase cancellation.
5) The Mid-Side recording technique is incredibly easy to set up because each capsule has its own independent pattern adjustment.
