"The Boers knocked us silly at a mile"-Rudyard Kipling
From the British of "Mr. Kipling's Army" to the Cubans in Angola, the hardy Springboks of the old SADF earned the respect of every adversary they faced. In 1975, South Africa launched Operation Savannah, an armored thrust into Angola in reaction to the Marxist MPLA seizure of power in Luanda. South African "troopies" were issued the classic Pattern 70 "skeleton" webbing, built rugged enough for grueling combat in dusty veldt or trackless jungle. The Pattern 70 kit was also used by Rhodesian forces in their 15 year bush war against insurgent groups ZIPRA and ZANLA. A vital part of that load bearing system was the R-1 ammo pouch for the FN battle rifle chambered in 7.62 NATO. This South African SADF Angola Rhodesian PATTERN 70 WEBBING FN R-1 AMMO POUCH is in excellent condition, with moderate drying and stiffening to the top flap and the bottom body, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the pouch is in excellent shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the crisp grayish green canvas construction. Most interestingly, it boasts a fully functional greenish gray finished metal "glove" snap tab closure front flap, sports fully intact long web belt loops at back, along with a single "male" metal attachment snap, and is a beautiful example of a rare, original
