    Description

    US Marines deployed to Vietnam in early 1965, at first to defend American air bases from VC attacks. By August they had seen their first action, cutting off and destroying a large Viet Cong force on the coast at Chu Lai in Operation Starlite. Their role soon expanded to "search and destroy" missions to take the fight to the guerrillas in the more remote inland jungle areas. Many Marines early in the conflict were issued the 7.62 NATO rifle, prized for its accuracy, long range effectiveness, and takedown power. This USMC Marine US Vietnam 7.62 NATO RIFLE M-61 AMMO POUCH is in excellent condition, with a small edge tear and some light whitish spot soiling at the upper left back, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the pouch is in excellent shape, with no other damage to the crisp OD canvas construction. Most interestingly, it's "US" marked at front, boasts a fully functional darkened brass "glove" snap closure front flap, and is dated 1967 in the nomenclature stamping at the underside of that flap. It sports two fully intact "male" darkened brass attachment snaps at the divided back belt slide, and is a beautiful example of a rare, original USMC Marine US Vietnam 7.62 NATO RIFLE M-61 AMMO POUCH.
